Frequently Asked Questions
View our most frequently asked questions about our garage door repairs and installations.
Do you give free estimates?
Yes, we do not charge for quoting you a new door, gate, and/or opener estimate. However, we charge for a service call if the door, gate, and/or opener needs repairing. Our technicians are experts and should be able to fix most problems. Our trucks have almost every part required to complete any job possible.
How much does a garage door cost?
Pricing changes due to the cost of steel fluctuations but a standard hollow 16 x 7 door with installation and all hardware will cost between $900 – $1045. There are many upgrades and designs to choose from that could add to the price. You can call or email us to get a door estimate from one of our sales representatives.
Do I need an insulated door?
Insulation is not a requirement. However, the average price is between $100 to $245 to add. It is not bad, considering that insulation increases the door’s toughness, and if you are using the garage as a workshop, comfort is a top priority. Insulated doors are typically quieter and keep temperatures in the garage relatively stable. Reducing the temperature fluctuation in rooms above the garage can be a big energy saver.
What is a Torque Master and should I convert it?
Yes, we do! Most local Nashville area homes have the Torque Masters spring systems installed. Torque Masters are manufactured, created, produced, and installed by Wayne Dalton. The idea behind their design is simple; it cleans up the look of the install by hiding the springs in a galvanized 1″ tube above the door. There’s a couple of advantages to this: it looks much cleaner than traditional spring methods. The other benefit is that the install is typically much faster because the Torque Master is all one piece. That, however, is where the good points of this system end. Torque Tubes can only be purchased through Wayne Dalton, which means that they can sell it for any price they choose because it’s their trademark.
Additionally, Torque Tube can only be adjusted by a custom trademark Wayne Dalton tool. Another downside to this system is that you can’t see the springs because the install looks so clean, so if one breaks, you may not know for several months. At that time, it’s prevalent to burn up the motor or strip the gears in the motor from the stress of it lifting a lot more weight than it was designed for. You can expect to pay as low as $469 from us or as high as $675 from the other companies.
Should I install one or two springs on a garage door?
We recommend having two springs on any door that is 16 feet wide or larger. Two springs will increase the springs’ longevity, and if one spring ever fails, you will still have a way to open your garage door without damaging the operator.
Should I use a professional installer?
Garage doors are the most massive moving objects in your home and business. The installation of garage doors is highly technical. Springs can be particularly dangerous, and proper installation is critical to your door’s performance and the safety of those who use it. Pro Door Doctor’s professional technicians can typically install a door in only a few hours and are careful to ensure all safety requirements are met. A professional installation will save you time and guarantee that your door performs safely and effectively. We also give you the ability to pick up and install on your own. Ask one of our trained sales representatives for details.

How do I replace and program my LiftMaster® remote control?
We carry a full line of LiftMaster® accessories, including remote controls. Please start by determining the color of the “learn” button on your opener. With that information, our technicians can find the appropriate remote control. They will give you instructions on how to program the remote control. If you have questions when you get home, you can always go to the LiftMaster® support site at support.chamberlaingroup.com
Is it ok to paint my garage door?
Yes. You can paint steel doors with quality latex paint. NEVER use oil-based paint. Doing so will cause the original finish to bubble up and peel off. With latex paint, there is no prep work needed. Just make sure the door is clean and dry before painting. Before starting to apply paint, use spic and span to remove any wax build-up for this will allow the paint to adhere to the surface.
